One of South Hills Music’s students had an article written about them in the Tribune Review titled: “Brentwood Scout fine-tunes Eagle project with ukulele“.

Typically, Eagle Scouts in Troop 614 have earned the distinction with a hammer and nails. But Steve Barton opted for a ukulele.

Once a week this summer, Barton taught a ukulele course at Blind and Vision Rehabilitation Services in Homestead. The project required fundraising, volunteers and an open mind.

His father, who also is his Scoutmaster, said he watched proudly as the project unfolded.

“His project wasn’t construction based. It was a little different,” Steve Barton Sr. said. “But I tell all the Scouts, think of something you’re really into, and make an Eagle Scout project out of it.”
